Quilting...

Some fabrics I bought to make into skirts have become part of a small, simple lap quilt that I pieced yesterday afternoon...  I should still have enough for a skirt from them ( I bought way too much fabric...) .

It's overcast and humid today... we had a big thunder and lightning storm late last night...
This is what most of New Jersey really looks like... trees, mountains., lakes, farms, beaches, ocean, ... the part that looks like trash is a small portion compared to the rest of it, which is very beautiful... ( when people outside of Jersey think of the state they only picture things like Port of Newark,

Port of Newark

Paterson, ( this photo actually makes it look not too bad, lol...)

Paterson,NJ

the parkway, etc...)

ah, the NJ Parkway, where you need to pay tolls every few miles and you need to pay to get on and off, lol... this is what people drive in to go down to the Jersey Shore... that's normal traffic...

Everything is very wet, so no coffee on the back deck this morning ( it's too humid too, yuck! )

My marigolds are loving the heat and humidity and have finally started to fill in...

Not all of my plants are loving our crazy, "it's hot/humid/ it's cold/breezy" weather that we have been having this summer... my large heirloom begonias are slowly biting the dust...  :(   too many crazy weather changes for them...

Other plants are completely digging our wacky weather! The coleus and fake licorice plant are taking over, which is good because there is only one begonia left in there!

This begonia is still going strong...  :)

My fuschias are happy as long as I remember to water them every morning! The geraniums are growing like crazy!

The mountain is lush from all the rain! Everything is so green!

The weeds are loving all the heat, humidity and rain also! The birdbath and Tigerlilies are being invaded! I had this whole section weeded out! Too hot to go out there and weed today... put that on the list for later this week when the weather turns back to comfortable...

More weeding, trimming to do in back... the Hostas are lost in there...

Bird feeder down! The bear must have been around again... that won't be going up again for a while now... sorry birds...

These Begonias are super happy! One of the pots fell off the railing the other day in a storm and got smooshed! :(   It's on the mend and looking better... note to self: move the Begonias before big hail storms! We had hail the size of quarters the other day! It was crazy!

Not my porch but this was the same hail storm from 3 July 2014.  It hit my neighborhood a few minutes later...

I hate to break this to her, but I am going to be pulling the quilt out from under her in a minute to work on it...

Hope everyone is having a restful week...  I am...  :)

SPRING BREAK!!!

At 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, a mass exodus of teachers flowed out the doors of my school... there was no staying until 4:00 or 4:30 to catch up loose ends, grade or work on plans. No, this was the much anticipated and long awaited for moment that marked the official start of Spring Break! I finished organizing the drying 3d grade prints, put lids on the paint cups, cleaned the last of the paint brushes I had thrown in the sink, rinsed out the water containers and neatly stacked them on the shelf above my sink. I grabbed my things, locked my door, went down the hall to say, "good-bye and have a great break!" to several people and got in my car and left without looking back!
Enjoy these pic's of flower paintings with concentric line design centers that my 1st graders are working on! ( these are still in progress, but they are turning out so awesome I wanted to share! ) If your also off this coming week, ENJOY! If not have a good week where ever you are!      Mrs."C"  :)

The First Full Week of School This February!

Sometimes you just need to go off track and just play....  :)    One of my 5th graders was having fun decorating his hand while finishing his landscape...

My Smartboard covered with directions and student examples... inspired by this pin and this pin.
4th grade is working on the 3-D cityscapes...

3d grade is working on Op Art hand forms....

They just started them this week... next week I will have them add visual texture to the background with rubbing plates.

Anyone who was done early took a circle sheet ( warm or cool color ) and designed a circle. I'm saving them all in a box to create a large collaborative piece. I will have different grades do different size circles or different shapes, haven't decided yet...

2nd grade has been fingerprinting hyacinths! We added details with oil pastel and a border from painted paper scraps.

Sorry for the glare... I took the pictures after they were hung on the bulletin board in the front hallway at school.

Kindergarten is creating tulip fields... they are printing the tulips with the tines of a plastic fork, inspired by this pin.  I showed the classes a short video about the tulip fields in the Netherlands.
Next week they will add details with oil pastels.

They had so much fun they wanted to keep printing tulips on activity paper! This sweet Kinder worked carefully around her wet tulips to add details! It was too wet to take with her so I will give it to her tomorrow to take home. Isn't it beautiful?

Well, that's what we have been up to this week, it is the first full week of school we have had the entire month of February!  Next week it will be March ( yeah! ) sorry February, but I'm so done with Winter this year! It's not over yet though... there may be flowers in the art room but it is going snow again here Sunday into Monday,  6 to 12 inches ( oh yeah...)
Oh well, for now I will just have to live Spring vicariously through my students Spring flower creations!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Follow me on Bloglovin

The blogs are buzzing with reminders that tomorrow, July 1, 2013 Google Reader goes away!  Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin!  I put a Bloglovin button on my right hand sidebar all you have to do is click on it and click follow!  It's that simple!  Hope everyone is enjoying their well earned break from school! Enjoy the following pictures from Kindergarten this Spring!  They used recycled painting placemats for the flower containers, crayon for the stems and tempera paint for the flowers!  I usually do these with 1st grade, but switched the lesson to Kindergarten this year!  They loved it and we finished in one 40 minute class.
